You all should head over the Panera Bread in the Barracks Rd shopping center this evening to see some awesome art work on display as part of the Power of Pink Art Show & Auction sponsored by Panera Bread and UVa Breast Care Center.

Since October is Breast Cancer Awarness Month, Panera Bread will be holding several different Breast Cancer related events through out the month. The art show, which features work from several local artists[ including your's truly] will be on display in the Barracks Rd location from September 25th ~ October 20th. And on the 21st of October the art work will be sold at an auction with all proceeds going to UVa Breast Care Center.

I will post a list of the events at Panera for all who are interested in the future, but you should go check out the art as soon as possible.

Here are a couple new shots from the mall downtown. Check out www.myspace.com/descrystudios for the rest of the digital captures and I'll post more as soon as my slides get developed...and scanned for that matter.

Does anyone know where I could locate a slide/negative scanner?

The new home of my photography. I figured it was in need since I have this show coming up and it would be nice to direct interested parties to a site dedicated souly to my art rather than the crazy haze that is my social life.

Took some great shots downtown the other week. I have a few roles to develop this weekend and [due to the office admin sucking ass] i will be able to post the digital stuff as soon as I find my camera software. Unless of course anyone knows how to fix a USB port on an 8 year old laptop? Anyone?

Bueller?

Anywho, check out the new site and have a wonderful weekend. :D

Saturday did not go as planned. I will spare everyone my groaning because, honestly, Im tired of telling this story. But on the way back into Lynchburg with Dad, we ended up stopping on the side of 29 for a beautiful sky neither of us could pass up. If there is anything my father & I bond over, its our photography. Thank the heavens for the clouds & their silver linings...

By the way...finished Harry Potter 7 at 4:15 this morning. Fucking brilliant. The book that is. Not my decision to keep reading til 4. But for anyone who has the book and doesn't already know...after chapter 30 or so...you CANT PUT IT DOWN!

Ok, so in trying to decide which photographs to submit for this art show I'm going to give the random populas a shot at helping. Of the following few photographs, which do you think I should submit. I will most likely be going out sometime this weekend or next weekend to shoot some stuff around c-ville to submit as well, but just curious to see if thats even necessary. Keep in mind that this is a charity auction with UVA Breast Care Center and Pantera Beard.

So, let me know which ones you like the most:

Not bad for first time recording in a brand new basement studio. With my extremely talented lady at the helm producing, a solid EP should be coming your way very soon. Here are some production stills courtesy of yours truly.

This is a scan of a project I created in college. The assignment was to use an entire roll of film to create an image. Sometimes you just have to mix it up a little...see how far you can take an idea. Photography is not limited to simply light exposed to film/paper.

Check this shit out. Its wonderful. So wonderful I'm kicking my own ass for not thinking of this idea first...and will probably spend the majority of my evening thinking about ways to manipulate this concept into something that I can do without completely ripping off this obviously talanted and creative person. But thats the bitch about art these days; there are no original ideas anymore. There are new ways of doing something, but all artists steal thier ideas. Call it cynical...its the truth. We take an idea and we manipulate it...morphing the concept into something we can call our own. Not that its a horrible thing, its all about exploring every angle possible. Back in the day, making an exact copy was distinguished profession so I think we are moving up from that. Just sucks when you see something that makes you face the fact that you arn't reaching your creative potential.

And since I'm feeling slighty "meh" about my personal work today no pictures. Sorry, just cant find something appropriate. However, I will provide a link to another one of my inspirations. He is an a-fuckin-mazing artist and his style is what I try to follow the most. Simply becuase its just that badass.

I promise more pictures next time.

Since I haven't taken anything post worthy in the last days, I thought it would be fun to post some of my work from college to give you a deeper glimps into my style of photography. Which actually might not be a horrible idea for a few more posts, but I promise to keep the new stuff coming.

Here we have some figure work that my friend Manda was lovely enough to assist with.
As you can tell, I'm a big fan of high contrast. Not in all my work, but when it comes to the ideas that I plan out I defanitly try to go for abstract and high contrast.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Walker's Diner in Farmville. Best place for hole-in-the-wall food. and I mean BEST. This was taken completely by happenstance only becuase I realized the reflection was good enough for the double image. A majority of my work is like this...off the cuff and by the moment. Mostly becuase thats when the beautiful things in life happen. You can't plan them, but you can capture them if you are lucky.

portraits

Portraits are an interesting animal. They can be abstract or realist. Simple headshot or random body part. Is a portrait a projection of the subject or entirely the perspective of the artist?

Honestly, I don’t know. I just like taking pictures of people. :P

Part of my drive when it comes to my photography is the desire to show people what I see in this world, and the people around me make up a good portion of that. The best thing about a portrait session is the extended opportunity to see in detail all the little quirks and everything that makes your subject the person they are. The trick is being quick enough and observant enough to catch those moments. Sly smiles, a certain look in the eyes, body language…those are what you strive for. Anyone one can take a “nice snapshot”, a good portrait takes a little more work by both parties. Best way to figure out if a portrait is what it should be? Regardless of subject matter, a good portrait always makes you feel warm & fuzzy inside.

It’s all about capturing someone as they are.

And if you are quick enough, as silly as they can be. ;)

Well i've been told that i should just write so i'm going to. leave it to an artist to be scared shitless of a blank canvas...or in this case a blank screen ment for words which never seem to come out right as i read them over.

and so far ive been sitting here typing the same damn paragraph over and over again. not knowing how much to say...not wanting to sound whiny but needing support...

christ i'm a mess.

well damn, thats the most ive posted in about a year. so heres a new picture and some ramblings. the picture kinda feels the way i do right now. there is a light...just not bright enought to clear up the darkness.
